  1. May 27, 2011

May 27, 2011 by Hubbard County Historical Museum Director

Hello from the museum!  We had a fairly busy week. 104 school children toured the museum this week.  First Graders from Bertha Hewitt and Second Graders from Park Rapids.

The children are always excited to begin the tour.  Most of the groups knew what the building was years ago, but they had no idea what you did at a Courthouse other than go to jail and get divorced ( those were two of the most popular answers that I received.)  Of course the girls like the Toggery with all the clothing and the boys just want to see the machine gun.  They all seem impressed with the schoolroom and would not want to live in the one room cabin.  It is interesting to see the museum through the eyes of a child.

We are getting organized for the Fund Raising Dinner at the Legion on Saturday June 11, 2011 from 4:30 to 7:30..mark it on your calendar.  We will have special music that evening at 6:00 PM during the dinner!

We will also have a silent auction and will gladly accept handmade items at my office in the museum.

  2. Open House Saturday May 21

May 20, 2011 by Hubbard County Historical Museum Director

Hello from the Museum!  Tomorrow Saturday, May 21 from 1 to 3 we are having an open house!

To help us celebrate Archeology week in Minnesota,  June and Dick who “dig” as a hobby will be here.  Children will be able to dig for treasures in a sand box on the lower level of the museum.  June and Dick will show you the tools that they use on a “dig”  and answer any questions. I hope you will join us.  Board members will be on hand to give tours of the museum.  I heard a rumor that cookies will be served..perhaps with coffee and kool aid for the youngsters.

As usual there is never a fee to visit us, although your doanations are welcome.

This week Nancy and I gave tours to the Nevis First Graders, thirty -seven wide eyed full of questions children.  What fun!

Next week on Monday May 23 at 7PM you are invited to join us for a short meeting here at the museum and then a program will be given by Frank Mitchell about the “Jefferson Highway.”  The  Jefferson Highway stretched from the Canadian Border to Louisiana..and it goes right through Park Rapids.  I believe more cookies and refreshments will be served.  Enter the building at the door on the south east corner for the evening meeting.  I hope to see you there! :)
