  1. Remember When: The Playground Area

September 14, 2012 by Hubbard County Historical Museum Director

Sometimes we need to be reminded what Park Rapids looked like a long time ago.

The Playground area early 1900's (2)

It says:  Unless you’ve been in the Park Rapids Region a long, long time, you’ll not remember when the school playground looked like this.

In the foreground is Meyer’s planing mill and the Meyer’s home built in the spring of 1892.

The public school is pictured at the right and the Great Northern Hotel, which stood on the present Post Office site, may be seen near the middle of the picture.

The picture – taken from the old Great Northern Railway depot – was loaned to us by Mrs. Emil Erick.

2012: In 1910 the School Building burned down.  It was rebuilt.  Today a school building remains on that old site however it has been made into apartments.
