Shortly after the turn of the century, Frank Houghton, a railroad engineer, came to Park Rapids to make his home and subsequently, to go into business.
Along about 1914, Mr Houghton, right, formed a partnership with M.E. Smith, the tall fellow in the doorway. That partnership latest until Mr. Houghton’s death in 1932.
The little tire vulcanizing shop grew through the years to the present imposing structure that is Smith Chevrolet dealer in Chevrolet automobiles, distributor of Phillips 66 products and automotive repair shop.
“Milt” Smith, no less tall than when this picture was taken still heads the firm.
