Merry Christmas From The Museum

December 23, 2012 by Hubbard County Historical Museum Director

Merry Christmas everyone!

I have some questions about the area and perhaps you or visiting company will have some input.  If so please leave a comment.

Do you know how Revoir Lake in Rockwood Township got its name?  Revoir Lake is between Spearhead Lake and Lake Plantagenet.  Do you know anyone that used to live on Revoir Lake?

Have you ever heard of a Doctor from the Twin Cities that was going to start a clinic on a prominent point on  6th Crow Wing Lake in the 1930’s to 1940’s?  A fellow has an old foundation on his property and has been told that was what the building was going to be used for..but he has no idea if it happened or not.   I explained to him that in the bigger cities many families brought their children North into our area during the summers..especially during the Polio years.

We are looking for old photos of the Stockyards in Park Rapids, they were east of the train tracks between 5th and 7th street about where Gilbert Street is now.

Thanks for reading!

The stockyards was located where River Heights is now standing. Katie Hochstater’s dad started it and ran it for years and Eddie Jokela sold many of the sales. May contact those families see if they have any pictures. Katie probably would.

I believe Les Havness from Wadena also auctioned at the sale. Not sure many folks took pictures but never know.
