July 25, 2013 by Hubbard County Historical Museum Director

This is a photograph taken about 1890 to 1900.Early Team Akeley (2) For Drop box

The photos is marked “Early Team Akeley” No doubt one of the area farmers took his oxen and wagon to town for supplies.  Akeley was a very large town in it’s day.  Note the tired looking Border Collie who probably followed the team into town.

Thursday August 1st at 12 Noon join us for a closer look into the “Day in the Life of a Pioneer Family” presented by Alice Holz. 301 Court Avenue at the Hubbard County Historical Museum.

That dog appears to be wearing a bandana and its ribs are sticking out.

I’ve often wondered how the all the horse do-do got cleaned up in these towns. I’ve never actually read much on the subject – it seems to have been one that wasn’t talked much about.
