Haberer’s Garage

January 31, 2014 by Hubbard County Historical Museum Director

Recently we talked about the old Apco Station at the intersection of Third Street and Highway 71.

Due west of the Apco Station was Haberer’s Garage.  You can see the reflection of the post office in the window.

If you have any information about either of these old business establishments please leave a comment.  Thanks!

According to an on-line book, Haberer’s Garage was built in 1914-15 by “John Haberer and Son”.

The 1920 US Census shows John (abt 1865) working as a “Blacksmith” and his two sons, Fred J. and Benjamin J. working as “machinist, automobiles.”

It was Frederick Jacob (Fred) that owned and operated the garage. The 1930 and 1940 US census show him to be “proprietor / garage”. His WWI draft papers show him to be “Garage owner”.
